…hands down. A polished ‘perfect ten’ is exactly what I need to feel all is right in my little world.
Although I love a professionally done manicure, I prefer to paint my own nails. And having been my own primary manicurist since I was 12, I’m able to give myself a salon quality mani (and pedi) in the comfort and privacy of my own home. I consider it my weekly therapy session which costs me nothing but a little time, a steady hand and about five bottles of polish.
My love affair with lacquer is serious. I feel naked and unkempt when my nails are bare. Because I’m deathly afraid of my nails becoming weak, or worse, getting a nail fungus, I shun acrylics in favor of my natural nails. Thanks to my father, my nails grow long and strong relatively quickly. I look at them as my little canvases, begging me to cover them with paint and embellish them with texture.
Family time is just that…FAMILY time. I’m selfish with it. Stingy with it. And the cell phone goes unanswered/uncharged when I’m in the company of my fam’s smiling faces. I understand how fortunate I am to be born into a unit of such beautiful people who are crazy about me…and some who are just plain crazy…lol. All jokes aside, the love and adoration I have for my family is indescribable. Being around my parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and bad butt cousins makes me feel so complete. They remind me that every day I step foot outside my door, I’m representing them and all that they have sewn into me. That being said, I have to put my game face on, turn my swag up a few notches, and be the Boss that they raised me to be.
